Part 11
Hamad: you're doing fine, you don't have to be nervous
It was the first time he spoke to her directly that night
Meera: I'm not nervous (she lied), besides you were the one who hasn't said anything in there
He smiled
They started to walk side by side when Hamad spoke up
Hamad: may I be honest
She looked directly at his eyes for the first time while he stared back at her
Hamad: let's make this a contract marriage
With her eyes still locked onto his, she did not know what to say
Hamad: let's not make it personal
Meera: I agree
Hamad: you do? (he said surprised)
That stunned him, he was preparing to have an argument mentally with her since other girls would not have agreed to it.
Meera: I live alone, I've been alone and independent for a long time
Hamad: then why are you doing this?
His straight forward approach did not bother her as it would someone else
Meera: for everyone else, my family mostly and besides I've lived with two roommates before
She said making him laugh.
Meanwhile...
Hessa found herself thinking about the events of this morning but she kept herself from doing the stupid thing which was sleeping with him again. Why was she even thinking about him, she doesn't have his number or know anything about him. All she knew was where he bought his coffee. She shook the thought away and continued with her night routine. Grabbing her phone she decided to text Meera and see how it was going.
Text to Meera
How is it going?
She waited awhile until she received a reply
From Meera
Well... I guess... Tell you all about it later
That was the Meera that she knew, when it came to business she knew her stuff but things like this she needs an interpreter.
The next morning...
Saif was driving when he decided to call Hamad on speaker in his car.
Saif: so how was it?
Hamad: your calling me this early to ask about last night
Saif: we all know your wide awake before 6:00 AM, so?
Hamad: fine
Saif: that's all I get
Hamad: we agreed on mutual understanding
Saif: it's always business with you
Hamad laughed then hung up. That was the kind of friends they were behind all that they understood what the other meant.
He stopped by Starbucks and laughed remembering yesterday's events. Entering the cafe he stopped for a second scanned the room looking around. Then, he stood in line to order his regular coffee. While waiting for his order, he found himself watching the door every now and then watching who was entering and who was leaving
Saif: 'what the hell am I doing?'
He got his coffee and practically ran out of the place and into his car not to think about it much longer.
That night...
Due to Hessa and Aisha's persistent nagging, the girls decided to have what probably might be their last girls night in before the babies come along.
Hessa: YOU WHAT?
Aisha: what does that even mean?
Meera: yeah no judgment here (she said sarcastically)
Aisha: we are just worried about you
Meera: basically we will be living like roommates
Aisha: like in a two separate bedrooms?
Meera: we discussed everything last night, we would be living in separate bedrooms not as lovers since neither of us are interest and what goes on in the house stays there
Hessa: what about in public? You both have reputations to worry about?
Meera: it's like a contract marriage, an image for the people for both our sakes but nothing more
Hessa: do both your parents know about this?
Meera: No, we came up with this on our own
Aisha: are you sure you want this?
Meera: Its ideal for the both of us
Hessa: why haven't I thought of that, at least it would get my mother off of my back
They laughed but were still worried about all this. Could Meera really want to go through all this?
