Can we just be us? Part 60

Part 60

Jawaher: do you love hamad?

Meera just stared at her now knowing what to say. Was she seriously asking that was what she thought.

Jawaher: I know it's not my place, im sorry, but I have to ask

Meera looked to her coffee trying to avoid eye contact

Jawaher: meera please answer me, are you guys happily married? because I heard some rumers about a business marriage you guys agreed on

Meera: the rumors are true

Still ignoring eye contact

She managed to say

Meera: do you still love him?

Jawaher: I didn't mean for all this, part of my divorce was of my lingering feeling for hamad, but then I found out he was married that night

Meera saw the sadness in jawaher's eyes. It only made her feel bad. She truly loved him and hamad hasn't been the same since she came over to their house.

Meera: he was the ex-boyfriend

Jawaher looked at her

Meera: you talked about him last time we met

Jawaher: I didn't mean to make this awkward

Meera felt like a left out mistress in a marriage even though she was the wife.  She hated how much history they shared, all the stories and memories they shared together.

Meera: you still haven't answered me

Jawaher looked at her confused

meera: Do you still love him?

Jawaher: yes

...

Meera drove home in a daze. She couldn't get what jawaher said out of her mind. Exactly what she needed another problem in her life. She never felt so helpless. Thinking back at the beginning of all this, before she decided to agree to this marriage, she wondered what made her say yes. She secretly hoped that getting married would be an answer to her. A chance for her to love, and be loved.

The next morning…

Meera woke up and looked at the clock, it read 6:15. Hoping in the shower she couldn't help but think of his gift that she got him before all this started. Now it just laid on her table. She debated whether to give it to him or not. She laughed at her situation and remained in the shower enjoying the hot shower. The warmth of the water reminded  her of hamad, of how it felt to sleep next to him. She turned the water off and let the memory slip away. Wondering if she told her friends her situation or if it was just going to make her sound like a pathetic woman who couldn't keep a man,  in her case a man under the same roof. Hessa's words rang in her mind "I wouldn't wear any underwear or anything of matter under a coat and fuck him in his office ", is what she said when meera asked about a good birthday surprise. Well it sure would be a surprise but not something she would do, especially now that Jawaher is in the picture. She imaged Jawaher doing that to him and it only pissed her off. She grabbed his gift of the table walked towards the door.

Meanwhile…

Hamad laid his gift he received from Jawaher on the coffee table in his office. She insisted to meet up with him early in the morning knowing he would be wide awake. Looking at the clock it was still early and not all of his staff has arrived yet.

Meera: already in your office I see, birthdays aren't an exception?

He turned around to see her standing by the door holding a blue paper bag. He secretly hoped to see her before he left to work, but since they were sleeping separately he started waking up before 6 and was long gone before she got out of her room.

Hamad: what can I say, I'm a busy man

He chuckled, it scared him how he missed her although she was still under his roof. She wasn't gone, yet.

Meera: I see why you like coming here early, I might actually start to do so

Referring to the office being empty. Something about it calmed her down

He hoped she would do so, which only meant that he could bump into her before heading to work early in the morning.

Hamad: so what brings you here

Meera: I've got a suprise for you

She walked towards him

A blue wrapped gift sat on his coffee table, it caught her eye

Meera: expecting gifts already

Hamad: it's from jawaher

She froze in her place, she was hoping to be the first to give him a gift, and apparently someone else beat her to it. Someone who knows hamad more than she did

Trying to change change the subject and run away from the situation, she raised her hand and looked at her watch

Meera: I almost forgot, I have have a meeting in 20 minutes

She turned around and started to walk away

Hamad: wait

She turned around

Hamad: I'm guessing you are here for that?

He pointed at the bag in her hand

Meera: ohh, almost forgot

She placed it on the chair by the door

Meera: happy birthday

And with that she left, not stopping straight to her car. She promised herself she shouldn't cry, since it was the agreement she agreed upon.

Hamad only watched her walk away leaving him behind and the gift she left for him. He wanted to stop her but after all it was just an agreement they decide on. Nothing was to come from this, he told himself.

He grabbed the paper bag and grabbed the frame out. He couldn't believe his eyes. There it was, she managed to find it and frame it. It was something he was going to cherish for the rest of his life.

Later that day…

Hamad knocked on the door interrupting meera applying her lipstick. He stared at herb back for awhile. He forgot how beautiful she was, nothing about her stood out but he just saw the beauty in her.

Hamad: ready?

They were having a birthday dinner at his parent’s house

Meera: yes

She walked out grabbing her shoes, hamad noticed her cold behaviour. She was more distant than before. He asked if she was okay but she would only answer with a simple yes. They got into the car and drove off. Meera did the usual as she watched the outside from her window. Hamad knew she was distracted, and that there was something bothering her. They have reached his parents’ house and walked to the door.

Hamad slipped his hand in hers which took her by surprise. She looked at him as he had a smile in his face right before fatima opened the door.

Fatima: hi you guys

Hamad: hi sis

They said their hellos and walked towards his parents

Mom: my babies

Making them and chuckle

Meera saw his family how happy they were, she hated that they had fooled them by pretending they were happily married. Jawaher's words rang in her head. She hated herself for agreeing to the deal.

After their family dinner they got into the car and drove home, hamad sensed meera wasn’t fine, he just knew it. After parking the car they walked side by side to the door. Meera took off her shoes and walked to her room but was stopped by hamad calling her out.

Hamad: are you alright?

Meera: I want a divorce
