Can we just be us? Part 63

Part 63

Perviously...

Looking at herself in the mirror Meera liked what she saw. The dress was shorter than what she usually wore and it didn't take much convincing from both hessa and Aisha.

What the heck, was what she thought, they were heading to a Bachelorette party and what a better time to dress slutty. Applying the bold red lipstick on her lips and she was out the door locking her hotel door behind her with her clutch in her hand.

Turning around she froze in her place

All she did was gasp

Hamad: I should be doing that, you look amazing

...

He said looking at her, he couldn't help but get angry at the thought that all the men that were going to lay eyes on her are going to think of what he was thinking of doing to her right now. The she was dressed made him doubt all his patience.

Hamad: hi

He had a big smile on his face, a smile she couldn't resist

Meera: hi

A moment of silence passed by and all they did was stare into each other's eyes. So many unspoken words, untold feelings and sexual tension filled the air.

Meera: did you just come back?

She said breaking the silence

Hamad: my plane landed this morning

She had learned about his plans for the US from hessa, she rarely heard anything about him after that. But then one day the tabloids filled up with pictures of him with some random ladies. Just like the olden days, he became the ladies man he was.

Meera: the girls are waiting; see you around

She said mad at the memory of the pictures in the tabloids. She didn’t understand why she got so angry. She walked away not able to stand there and see him, she walked a few steps then stopped and said

Meera: welcome back

Heading towards the elevator she stopped and and pressed the downwards button. Boy was she glad for the fast reaction of the elevator doors opening. Then, she entered and turned around, hamad standing in his place looking right at her with a smirk and his face and  hands in his pocket.

Meera: ‘this is going to be a long weekend’

...

Hours later

With her hair wild and shoes in her hand she walked across the lobby
her phone rang , it read Aisha

Meera: I'm in the lobby now

Hessa: ok Aisha we are both safe and sound now

Aisha had connected hessa to the call and was making sure that both of them had got home safely after the wild night they had.

Hessa : got to go, Saif's back

She hung up

Meera had her heels in her hands walking barefoot towards the elevator

Guy: hey there

Meera: hi

Guy: what's a pretty girl like you doing alone?

Meera just laughed, the guy hitting on her was obviously drunk and what gave him away was his girlfriend walking towards him slapping him then dragging him away.

She had dated several men after hamad but nothing serious. It was her choice not to get serious much to aisha and Hessa's dismay. She told them she was happy the way she was and things were good the way they were.

The elevator door opened and she walked in. Several people entered with her, what caught her eye was hamad walking in the same elevator and stood in front of her giving her his back. All she did was admire his back, how much did she miss him, how much she longed for him. A whole year passed but her feelings didn’t change, she hated how much he played with her feelings. Things started to cool down and she was slightly forgetting those feelings but then he comes rushing back. This only got her mad again.

People started leaving the elevator and it was only meera and hamad left.

Hamad: you really need to start carrying a spare pair of shoes with you

He said pointing at her heels now in her hand. He knew she always did that when she was tired of them

Meera: I always forget how painful they can be

Hamad had the first button of his shirt unmade with a pair of dark jeans. Meera always loved how good he looked in causal clothing, no matter how sharp he looked in his suit. His hair was messed up from saif's Bachelor party. Meera cursed under her breath imagining all the girls and strippers that threw them selves at him.

The elevator doors opened, both hamad and meera stepped out walking side by side towards their rooms.

Hamad hated the silence but didn't know what to say to break it. What was he going to say, that he agreed on the divorce and dated jawaher for awhile and when things went bad he just left the country for a year. Or that the whole time of two months he was with jawaher he only thought of meera. Or that agreeing on the divorce was the worst decision he has ever made.

Meera: good night

She said turning around almost entering her room when she was stopped by a muscular hand on her arm.

Can we just be us? part 62

Part 62

About a year later…

Meera: typical hessa, getting married the farthest place from home

She said packing her bag. They were going out of town for hessa and saif’s wedding so both her and Aisha decided to throw hessa her bachelorette party at the hotel that they were staying at

Sarah: you’re going now? the wedding isn’t until two days from now

Meera: yeah, but the bachelorette party is today, aren’t you coming?

Sarah: yeah but gotta go home and pack, see ya there

She said putting her sunglasses on ready to leave meera’s apartment

Sara’s point of view:

Should I tell her? Of course she knows he is going to be there, after all he is saif’s bestfriend. But does she know he is coming home today?

Getting into her car she drove home wondering if not telling her sister was a good idea. Sara still kept in contact with Hamad and so did Saeed. They got close despite his divorce to their sister. She knew Meera still did not get over him, so she avoided mentioning him or any news about him to her.
Pulling into the drive way Sara noticed an unfamiliar car parked along with saeed’s. She wondered who it was. Walking in, she heard saeed’s voice yelling at someone. But she couldn’t recognize to whom the other voice belonged to.

Saeed: dude I told you to walk through, not the other direction

Friend: well I couldn't the-

Saeed: fuck, he killed me

Friend: hahahahah served you right

Sara: seriously, go do this shit in your room

She said walking in, they were close but they just had to fight the moment they laid eyes on eachother

Saeed: inti sho em3awrench? El net a7san hni

He answered back annoyed

Sara saw his friend laugh; she couldn't help but find him hot. He wasn’t bulky or masculine, he was just the total opposite of saeed in appearance. He had glasses on which she found cute. He reminded her of the actor Nicholas Hoult.

Sara: you find this funny?

She said irritated. She was never the nice person infront of strangers. Besides, he just sat there laughing at her which got her a little pissed off

Friend: you don't remember me do you?

She looked puzzled trying to remember his face, thinking about it he did look familiar but she couldn't place it

Guy: ouch, it hurts that you forgot me, its ok kiddo

Only one person called her that, and she hated that he did

Sara: mohammed!!!

Mohammed: i haven't changed that much kiddo

Sara: stop calling me that

He just laughed

He used to be skinnier and nerdier. Don't get me wrong he still wore his glasses, but he dressed better and grew a light beard. He was fitter now but still slim.

Saeed: hey sara go check if mom prepared the food

Sara: what am I your maid

She walked away cursing underneath her breath. Not what she needed right now, its been awhile since she last saw him, five years to be exact.

Meanwhile…

Welcome Mr. Hamad, it's nice to see you here

Said the guy that works at the counter of the hotel

Hamad: hi Patric, it's been awhile since I've been here

Patric: the room the miss you asked about is staying on the 8th floor, would you like a room there?

Hamad: yes please

Patric: there you go sir

He handed hamad the key cards

Patric: they are right opposite of each other, enjoy your stay

Hamad saw the smile on Patric 's face and couldn't control the smirk that crept to his face

...

Can we Just be us? Part 61

Part 61

Meera: I want a divorce

Hamad remained quite knowing this day would come, who in his right mind would agree to his terms. Even meera didn't, and he knew it won't last.

She started to walk away when he grabbed her by the arm

Hamad: is this because of jawaher?

She hated how her name just rolled out of his tongue so easily

Meera: yes

She looked at him straight in the eyes, but he wanted to avoid her and couldn't look her directly in the eyes

Meera: but it's not just her

She paused a little then decided to let all of her and just say what she wanted

Meera: I can't give you what you want,  I can't make you happy all the time or make you my priority, I have my family to take care of, and you need someone who loves, someone who will be there for you, even if you can't see that now

Hamad remained speechless

He let go of her

She walked out, walked out of his life…

Three months later...

Hamad's mom: no you’re not moving to the states for a whole year

She said shaking her head

Hamad: I have to be there to overlook everything, and besides I'll come back every few months

Hamad's dad: let him do it honey, he is a grown man

They were acting as if he needed their permission.  Hamad found it cute that his parents still worried about him. He  knew his mother wont like it.

Hamad: I'll visit as much as I can, it will seem as if I never left

Hamad managed to open a firm in the US which put their company in an international level. Someone had to go to overlook the procedures and start with them, he could have allowed anyone else to go like Saif or any of his loyal employees but hamad wanted to do it himself. It was break from everything.

Mom: is this because of what happened with jawaher?

Dad: don't bring that up now, we already talked about this

Hamad just listened to his parents argue.

Fatima: someone is in trouble

She said walking in watching both her parents argue while hamad just sat there.

It reminded her of the olden days when he got scolded

Mom: now I have someone to side with me, put some sense into your brother

Fatima: I knew this is going to be about hamad going to the US, I actually agree with dad, let him go, it's a break from everything actually

Hamad's dad just smirked, happy that his daughter sided with him

Mom: I cannot believe this

She said dramatically

Hamad: will everybody just calm down, it's my choice

Dad: don't worry hunni, everything will be alright

After their arguing both their parents had a date planned, even when they just had a slight argument they still stuck to their plan and went on the date. Hamad envied their relationship

Fatima: you know you could have just told them the truth

Hamad: and that would be?

Saying almost uninterested

Fatima: the reason it didn't work out with jawaher is because she was no meera

Hamad just sat there in silence. He knew his sister was right but was too stubborn to admit it. After finalizing their divorce he had reconnected with jawaher secretly avoiding the tabloids. But he knew it wasn't what it used to be, and he wasn't happy therefore ending it with her despite her objection. All they had to talk about was the olden days, and at that time it seemed so important but not anymore.

Meanwhile…

Meera: will you stop setting me up

Hessa: what was wrong with the last guy I set you up with?

Meera: he called his mother mommy

Making all of them laugh

Aisha: oh god

Hessa: never saw him as a mama's boy

Meera: yeah no kidding

Aisha: ok then how about this guy?

She showed meera a picture in her phone, he was handsome

Aisha: he is a coworker of abdthulrahman-

Meera: nope, that’s it, no coworkers no friends no mama's boys, I can get a date by myself thank you

Hesaa: but-

Meera: no buts

Aisha: we are just worried about you

Meera: don't be, I'm divorced but it's not the end of the world, don't worry im fine

After their girls night out they all went home. Meera parked her car and walked into her old apartment. It was nothing compared with the house she lived in with hamad, but she still loved it. Stripping her clothes off she put on a tank top and shorts then got into bed. Just like every night for the past three months she pulled out her drawer and took out hamad's t-shirt. It smelled just like him. She pulled it close to her taking in his smell while lying on the bed. She closed her eyes and imagined herself lying next to him back at his house sharing the same bed.

Can we just be us? Part 60

Part 60

Jawaher: do you love hamad?

Meera just stared at her now knowing what to say. Was she seriously asking that was what she thought.

Jawaher: I know it's not my place, im sorry, but I have to ask

Meera looked to her coffee trying to avoid eye contact

Jawaher: meera please answer me, are you guys happily married? because I heard some rumers about a business marriage you guys agreed on

Meera: the rumors are true

Still ignoring eye contact

She managed to say

Meera: do you still love him?

Jawaher: I didn't mean for all this, part of my divorce was of my lingering feeling for hamad, but then I found out he was married that night

Meera saw the sadness in jawaher's eyes. It only made her feel bad. She truly loved him and hamad hasn't been the same since she came over to their house.

Meera: he was the ex-boyfriend

Jawaher looked at her

Meera: you talked about him last time we met

Jawaher: I didn't mean to make this awkward

Meera felt like a left out mistress in a marriage even though she was the wife.  She hated how much history they shared, all the stories and memories they shared together.

Meera: you still haven't answered me

Jawaher looked at her confused

meera: Do you still love him?

Jawaher: yes

...

Meera drove home in a daze. She couldn't get what jawaher said out of her mind. Exactly what she needed another problem in her life. She never felt so helpless. Thinking back at the beginning of all this, before she decided to agree to this marriage, she wondered what made her say yes. She secretly hoped that getting married would be an answer to her. A chance for her to love, and be loved.

The next morning…

Meera woke up and looked at the clock, it read 6:15. Hoping in the shower she couldn't help but think of his gift that she got him before all this started. Now it just laid on her table. She debated whether to give it to him or not. She laughed at her situation and remained in the shower enjoying the hot shower. The warmth of the water reminded  her of hamad, of how it felt to sleep next to him. She turned the water off and let the memory slip away. Wondering if she told her friends her situation or if it was just going to make her sound like a pathetic woman who couldn't keep a man,  in her case a man under the same roof. Hessa's words rang in her mind "I wouldn't wear any underwear or anything of matter under a coat and fuck him in his office ", is what she said when meera asked about a good birthday surprise. Well it sure would be a surprise but not something she would do, especially now that Jawaher is in the picture. She imaged Jawaher doing that to him and it only pissed her off. She grabbed his gift of the table walked towards the door.

Meanwhile…

Hamad laid his gift he received from Jawaher on the coffee table in his office. She insisted to meet up with him early in the morning knowing he would be wide awake. Looking at the clock it was still early and not all of his staff has arrived yet.

Meera: already in your office I see, birthdays aren't an exception?

He turned around to see her standing by the door holding a blue paper bag. He secretly hoped to see her before he left to work, but since they were sleeping separately he started waking up before 6 and was long gone before she got out of her room.

Hamad: what can I say, I'm a busy man

He chuckled, it scared him how he missed her although she was still under his roof. She wasn't gone, yet.

Meera: I see why you like coming here early, I might actually start to do so

Referring to the office being empty. Something about it calmed her down

He hoped she would do so, which only meant that he could bump into her before heading to work early in the morning.

Hamad: so what brings you here

Meera: I've got a suprise for you

She walked towards him

A blue wrapped gift sat on his coffee table, it caught her eye

Meera: expecting gifts already

Hamad: it's from jawaher

She froze in her place, she was hoping to be the first to give him a gift, and apparently someone else beat her to it. Someone who knows hamad more than she did

Trying to change change the subject and run away from the situation, she raised her hand and looked at her watch

Meera: I almost forgot, I have have a meeting in 20 minutes

She turned around and started to walk away

Hamad: wait

She turned around

Hamad: I'm guessing you are here for that?

He pointed at the bag in her hand

Meera: ohh, almost forgot

She placed it on the chair by the door

Meera: happy birthday

And with that she left, not stopping straight to her car. She promised herself she shouldn't cry, since it was the agreement she agreed upon.

Hamad only watched her walk away leaving him behind and the gift she left for him. He wanted to stop her but after all it was just an agreement they decide on. Nothing was to come from this, he told himself.

He grabbed the paper bag and grabbed the frame out. He couldn't believe his eyes. There it was, she managed to find it and frame it. It was something he was going to cherish for the rest of his life.

Later that day…

Hamad knocked on the door interrupting meera applying her lipstick. He stared at herb back for awhile. He forgot how beautiful she was, nothing about her stood out but he just saw the beauty in her.

Hamad: ready?

They were having a birthday dinner at his parent’s house

Meera: yes

She walked out grabbing her shoes, hamad noticed her cold behaviour. She was more distant than before. He asked if she was okay but she would only answer with a simple yes. They got into the car and drove off. Meera did the usual as she watched the outside from her window. Hamad knew she was distracted, and that there was something bothering her. They have reached his parents’ house and walked to the door.

Hamad slipped his hand in hers which took her by surprise. She looked at him as he had a smile in his face right before fatima opened the door.

Fatima: hi you guys

Hamad: hi sis

They said their hellos and walked towards his parents

Mom: my babies

Making them and chuckle

Meera saw his family how happy they were, she hated that they had fooled them by pretending they were happily married. Jawaher's words rang in her head. She hated herself for agreeing to the deal.

After their family dinner they got into the car and drove home, hamad sensed meera wasn’t fine, he just knew it. After parking the car they walked side by side to the door. Meera took off her shoes and walked to her room but was stopped by hamad calling her out.

Hamad: are you alright?

Meera: I want a divorce
